WHEN TWO JOBS ARE NOT ENOUGH
Hunger is sometimes hard to see on the surface. Matthew and Evelyn both work—Evelyn in retail, Matthew as a restaurant manager—and they own a home. But the two jobs just aren’t enough.
“ It’s helping us get by. Our house payments just keep going up.” —MATTHEW
Our Empty Bowl fundraiser in Pierre was a huge success! We want to thank the following people and organizations for their support: Beck Motors, Delta Dental, BPro, Cathy Sonnenschein Properties, Modern Woodmen, Farm Credit Services, Wegner Auto, A-G-E, South Dakota Rural Electric Association, BankWett, Pottery Plus, Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, Avera St. Mary’s Hospital, Servall, Cholick Sign Company, and Capital Journal. We’d also like to thank our soup donors: RedRossa Italian Grille, LaMinestra, CHOPS, Richie Z’s Brickhouse, and Lynn’s Dakotamart.
Our Empty Bowl fundraiser in Pierre benefits the Mobile Food Pantry Program, which serves 15 rural communities in Central South Dakota. The annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive takes place on May 12 this year, and we hope you’ll be a part of it! All you have to do is leave nonperishable food items for your mail carrier in a bag next to your mailbox. This is our largest food drive of the year, and helps us restock our shelves at a time of year when our donations tend to drop significantly. Any food items you donate will go directly to our neighbors in need here in South Dakota.
