Feeding South Dakota Resumes Neighborhood Food Distributions

Rapid City, SD [August 11, 2020] – On March 30th Feeding South Dakota transitioned its Rapid City neighborhood mobile food distributions into one centralized distribution held weekly at the Central States Fairgrounds in an effort to meet the increased demand for food assistance caused by COVID-19. Since that time, the organization has provided food assistance to 2.5 times the normal number of South Dakotans in need, including in Rapid City.

In an effort to continue to ensure the mobile distributions are accessible to all in need at varying days and times, Feeding South Dakota will transition back to neighborhood distributions beginning on Saturday, August 22nd, which means Wednesday, August 12th, will be the last distribution held at the Central States Fairgrounds. Feeding South Dakota is incredibly grateful for the community’s support during this challenging time.

Going forward, guests are asked to visit the one neighborhood distribution nearest them once each calendar month. Those who visited a centralized community distribution on either August 5th or August 12th will be eligible for their next visit during the month of September. Guests will be required to bring their photo ID at each distribution. Proxy pick-ups will not be allowed due to the fact that from time to time TEFAP (The Emergency Food Assistance Program) product is distributed. Individuals must be present to self-declare their household size and household income to receive these government commodities.

Please visit feedingsouthdakota.org/mobile to view a list of September distributions.

We ask for the community’s patience as we continue to strive to meet the increase in demand of food assistance. Feeding South Dakota understands that these continue to be challenging times for so many families in our state. Follow @FeedingSD on Facebook and online at feedingsouthdakota.org for the most current mobile food distribution notifications.

Volunteers are needed to help prepare for these mobile distributions. We encourage healthy individuals that have not had exposure to anyone with flu-like symptoms to register and sign up today at feedingsouthdakota.org/volunteer.
