Empty Bowls Event Raises over $5,000 for the Mobile Food Pantry

Pierre  — Thank you to all those who made Feeding South Dakota’s 1st Annual Empty Bowls Event a success.  It truly was a community event where 100’s of people stepped forward to offer a hand to make the event successful. Starting with the Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church's decision to provide the venue, to the business sponsors, to the restaurants who provided the soup, to those who decorated the tables, to those celebrity servers who served the soup, to those who painted the bowls and attended the event, thank you. Through your hard work and dedication, we raised $5,300 to help us with our Mobile Food Pantry Program, which serves 14 rural communities in Central South Dakota.

Each event guest received a hand painted bowl, donated by Pottery2Paint, and creatively painted by a community member and their choice of delicious soups donated by some of Pierre’s finest restaurants: LaMinestra, The Branding Iron Bistro, View 34, RedRossa Italian Grille and Chops. Lynn’s Dakota Mart provided the dessert and bread.

Businesses supporting the event with sponsorship gifts included Delta Dental, $2,500, Farm Credit Services, $1,000, Country Carpet & Flooring, Inc., $500, and Bank West, Black Hills Federal Credit Union, and Eddie’s Truck Center each donated $150. As a result of all the in-kind donations of soup, dessert, linens (Servall), and Pottery2Paint bowls all the money raised from sponsorships, tips from our celebrity servers and ticket sales will go directly to the program.

A special thank you to Karen Gallagher, VP of Mission, Avera St. Mary’s Hospital for her help planning and executing the event. Karen was instrumental in every stage of the planning from - recruiting volunteers to washing dishes the night of the event.
