Donate Time

Every single day, people in South Dakota suffer from hunger. And every single day, people donate their valuable time to fight hunger across our state. By donating your time to Feeding South Dakota, you help fill empty cupboards for families, empty tummies for school age children, and provide hope and dignity to people across our state.

For safety reasons, all volunteers must be 11 years or older.  Anyone between the ages of 11-14 years old needs to be accompanied by an adult. Most volunteer projects take place in one of our warehousing facilities, and we want to ensure all of our volunteers have an enjoyable and safe volunteer experience.

Volunteer Opportunity Descriptions

Food Drive Sorting/Stocking
(Sioux Falls & Rapid City)
Help Feeding South Dakota end hunger in our state by sorting donated food items and stocking our Food Pantry shelves. Volunteers in this position help us feed the food insecure individuals who rely on our Food Pantry Program.

(Sioux Falls, Rapid City, and Pierre)
Feeding South Dakota is the only food banking organization in the state. Volunteers in this position will help pull and build orders for our non-profit agency partners. This opportunity will help feed people in all 66 counties of the state.

Senior Box Packing
(Sioux Falls & Pierre)
Many senior citizens across South Dakota face mounting medical bills, which means a diminishing budget for groceries. Each month, volunteers pack and distribute over 2,700 supplemental food boxes to low-income, eligible seniors.

BackPack Packing
(Sioux Falls & Rapid City)
Weekends can be difficult for students living in food insecure households. Our BackPack Program provides school kids with weekend food packages so they can arrive back at school on Monday morning, well fed and ready to learn. Once a week, over 5,200 packages of food are packed by teams of volunteers.

Office Work
(Sioux Falls, Rapid City, & Pierre)
Volunteers assist with mailings, filing, data-entry, and other miscellaneous tasks, especially during the holiday season.
