Programs Manager - Sioux Falls, SD

Job Summary:

The Programs Manager is responsible for overall leadership, planning, and management of the programs and agency functions of Feeding South Dakota. Working closely with the Chief Operating Office and board of directors’ sub-committees to lead the development of work plans and goals for the Community Initiatives, Programs and Agency Relations Department.  

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for supervising agency relations coordinators, child hunger program coordinator, community initiatives coordinator and developing work plans
  • Monitor and assess services required by people experiencing hunger and develop programs to serve them.
  • Develop programmatic strategies, goals, and assessment criteria to meet needs, and direct activities to accomplish them.
  • Collect information and data about clients served by FSD; analyze and assess findings. Share data and reports with Development and Communication team.
  • Forecast needs of people experiencing hunger in our area.
  • Work with Development team to plan for, write and report out on grants.
  • Ensure programs meet all goals required by funders and regulators.
  • Maintain positive and proactive relationships with agencies.
  • Set goals for agencies; measure and assess agency performance relative to goals.
  • Hire, train, develop, and evaluate all programs staff.
  • Partner with leadership to engage in educational and advocacy efforts with agency partners, donors, government entities, and elected officials where appropriate
  • Identify resources and opportunities to introduce nutrition education to agency partners and their customers, empowering both to make healthier choices.
  • Ensure compliance with FSD, Feeding America, and governmental standards. 
  • Responsible for ensuring partner agency compliance with Feeding America and federal USDA commodity program guidelines and regulations
  • Plan, implement and evaluate FSD program strategies to include, but not limited to (BackPack, School Pantry, , and USDA programs (TEFAP, CSFP and others).
  • Oversee the program application, evaluation, onboarding and agreement processes for program partners.
  • Develop any necessary reporting systems to ensure alignment with our standard operating procedures.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with current and potential program partners to market product and services to expand program capacity and client collaboration initiatives.
  • Responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing annual agency relations convenings
  • Responsible for speaking at public events or funding request presentations representing Feeding South Dakota, as directed
  • Overnight travel and some evenings and weekend work within the state will be required
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor-level degree preferred in social work, public administration, program management, or equivalent years of experience with specific connection to the mission of the organization.
  • Demonstrated experience in human service, social service, area of direct program implementation and management.  Specific experience in emergency food programs or other non-profit organizational program implementation is preferred.
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills are required
  • Five plus years of management experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle.
