Feeding South Dakota is seeking a passionate, mission-driven leader to succeed their current CEO after a successful 22-year career at the helm of the organization. The CEO will join a dedicated network of staff, donors, board members, and community partners to end hunger in South Dakota.

About Feeding South Dakota
Feeding South Dakota is the largest hunger-relief organization in South Dakota and has provided support and services to help end hunger across the state for almost 50 years. Each month over 55,000 hungry individuals receive food assistance, including 4,500 kids who participate in the Backpack Program. As the only statewide hunger-relief organization in South Dakota, Feeding South Dakota fights hunger on behalf of children, seniors, and families every day.

Proudly and carefully, Feeding South Dakota guides all donated food and purchased food within its distribution network. In FY20, Feeding South Dakota distributed nearly 14 million meals in the fight against hunger, supported by individual donors, community, corporate sponsors, non-profit agency partners, and volunteers. Operations are headquartered in Sioux Falls with additional distribution centers in Rapid City and Pierre. The statewide team consists of 45 staff members and more than 16,300 volunteers who last year donated 62,994 hours of their time to help others in need. The Board of Directors consists of 16 individuals who represent numerous industries and regions across South Dakota.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES TO ACHIEVE SUCCESS
The next Feeding South Dakota CEO will have the relevant experience and talent to effectively carry out the key accountabilities of the position to include:
 

Develop the Senior Leadership Team
Create an environment of trust, teamwork, and accountability through exceptional team leadership, coaching, guidance, and strategy, to foster the engagement and retention of mission-driven team members.

Brand Ambassadorship & Relationship Building
Represent the organization through effective, trusted community partnerships and relationships that inspire others to give of their time, talent, or financial resources to advance the mission of Feeding South Dakota.

Oversight of Mission Delivery
Provide oversight to ensure effective administrative functions and operations to deliver on the strategic goals and mission to end hunger in South Dakota.

Board Development
Recruit, retain and engage a high-performance Board of Directors, ensuring they are appropriately informed to govern the organization while utilizing their strengths to advance the mission.

Financial Oversight & Risk Management
Provide strong financial oversight, internal controls, risk management, and transparent reporting, in partnership with the Finance Director, to ensure compliance and maintain and improve the fiscal health of the organization.

Education & Advocacy
Serve as a subject matter expert for communities, partners, and policy makers across South Dakota, inspiring collaborative action, and support to end hunger.

REQUIREMENTS OF THE ROLE
• Bachelor’s degree
• 10+ years of relevant leadership experience
• Experience in management of personnel and multiple locations is preferred.
• Ability to work effectively with a variety of people internally and externally.
• Effective, diplomatic, and clear communication style
• Ability to guide the team to a common vision.
• Ability to engage and educate community stakeholders in the mission of FSD.
• Collaborative and supportive leadership style
• Strong analytical and decision-making skills
