Feeding South Dakota hosts 4th Annual Fundraiser to support the BackPack Program
Sioux Falls, SD (2/6/17) – Feeding South Dakota is providing the opportunity to “Share Your Love” by donating to help feed a child in need in honor of someone you love this Valentine’s Day. On Tuesday, February 14th, the hunger-relief organization will deliver a rose and Valentine card, (decorated by a child) to your special someone (within Sioux Falls city limits) for a donation of $60. This gift will support the BackPack Program and will cover the cost of a weekly food package for one child for the rest of the school semester.
If you live outside city limits but still would like to participate in the Share Your Love fundraiser, Feeding South Dakota will mail a card on your behalf to your loved one for the $60 donation.
This is the 4th year for the fundraiser. Last year, the Share Your Love campaign raised $2,500, enough funding to provide food to 42 children through the end of the school year. This year, Feeding South Dakota is hoping to fund 100 weekend food packages.
“There are many children in need,” said Allison Struck, BackPack Program Coordinator. “It’s because of fundraisers like this that we can continue to provide food to children who often miss meals on the weekend.”
Each week, the BackPack Program provides more than 3,400 weekend food packages to children in Sioux Falls and surrounding communities. The program is partially funded through the United Way and costs more than $500,000 each year to operate in Sioux Falls. Individual donors contribute more than 50 percent of funds raised.
