Development Director - Sioux Falls, SD

The Development Director is responsible for planning, implementing and directing all aspects of fundraising activities to effectively reach the organization’s goals. This includes, but is not limited to, Corporate/Foundation Gifts, Major Gifts, Planned Giving, Direct Mail and Public Sector programs. Strong focus will be placed on major donations and generating gifts from individuals and new prospects while expanding fundraising efforts into previously untapped locales within the state.

 

Job Responsibilities:

Strategy

Responsible for research, development, and implementation of a comprehensive strategic fundraising and communications plan for Feeding South Dakota.
Evaluates ongoing regular giving strategies of the organization and works toward continuous improvement of the overall fund development strategy for the organization.
Oversees strategy and execution of development efforts targeted toward institutional donors including corporations, foundations, organizations and other groups to drive revenue.

Communications

Supervises media, publications, events, and other outreach activities.
Serves as a media spokesperson when appropriate in consultation with the CEO.
Represents the organization at appropriate functions to include speaking and presentations relating to Feeding South Dakota and its mission.
Supervises preparation of promotional materials (annual report, website, donor recognition, brochures, and other appropriate materials).

Fund Development

Cultivates and manages relationships with individuals, corporations, and foundations through personal communications and visits.
Manages the design, development, and implementation of direct mail, endowment, and planned giving programs.
Oversees annual grants calendar and ensures submission of timely, compelling requests/reports to current and prospective funders, demonstrating a clear understanding of programs, services, strategic initiatives, and budgetary needs.
Oversees the management of donor services - including donor management systems, business practices and databases to ensure accurate and timely gift administration, donor records, and major donor tracking.
Oversight and utilization of data analytics to develop successful fundraising strategies.
Supervises appropriate donor recognition.

Professional Development

Directs and inspires Development staff.  Ensures effective coordination between Development and other organizational departments.
Develops annual personal performance plans for all direct reports.
Participates in professional development training to maintain and enhance professional expertise in development techniques and opportunities.

Fiscal

Plans and manages the fund development budget to ensure responsible control over utilization of resources.

Collaboration

Develops and implements strategies with CEO to secure necessary resources to fund organizational services.
Works closely with CEO and Board of Directors to develop and implement fundraising and program strategy to support the mission and goals of Feeding South Dakota.
Participates in Board of Directors and Development and Marketing Committee meetings.
Provides ongoing education, technical assistance, and feedback to all organization personnel on their contributing roles in fund development and communications messaging.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

A minimum of a Bachelor's degree and at least four years of executive leadership experience with demonstrated success in all aspects of fund development.  Proven ability to prospect, cultivate, and manage relationships with corporate sponsors, foundations, and individual donors. Strong interpersonal communication skills, demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively, and experience with public speaking.
